2025 Taiwan Music Composition and Songwriting Contest–First Prize MV in Three Language Categories Premieres Worldwide

Co-organized by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, Ministry of Culture, the Hakka Affairs Council, and the Council of Indigenous Peoples, the Taiwan Music Composition and Songwriting Contest has entered its 22nd year. Over the decades, this stage has nurtured numerous outstanding native language songwriters and earned the reputation of being a “Golden Melody Awards trendsetter.” The competition has produced many recurring Golden Melody nominees and winners, continually demonstrating extraordinary creative talent that has impressed the judging panel. This year’s submissions feature rich storytelling, emotional depth, and strong cultural resonance. Notably, several entries involve cross-generational collaboration, with younger musicians drawing on the experiences and cultural heritage of older generations. Through this creative exchange, the music lives on, national-language education continues to deepen, and Taiwan’s unique linguistic and cultural diversity is shared with the world—presenting the global audience with the creative energy of TEAM TAIWAN.

The first-prize-winning songs have been enthusiastically received by both the jury and music-sharing-session audiences, who eagerly look forward to the future development of these award-winning works. In addition to the NT$300,000 cash prize, each first-prize recipient is also awarded the production of an exclusive music video. Today marks the global premiere of the first-prize MVs in all three language categories. The featured works include: “Diving” by Sam Liao, winner of the 30th Golden Melody Award for Best Taiwanese Album; “Flower of Freedom” by Wang Ping-Yu and Ku Cheng-Chen in the Taiwanese hakka category; “Sakura” by Tjaran rupavatjes—a member of BOXING, the 26th Golden Melody Award for Best New Artist—in the Taiwan’s indigenous languages category. All three creators expressed their hope that the visual imagery and cinematic approach of the MVs will help listeners immerse themselves more deeply in the lyrical narratives. They also look forward to sharing their music with global audiences, promoting cross-lingual and cross-cultural exchange through the power of music.
